The Sunday, June 6, during a celebration held in the plaza Józef Pilsudski, the Polish capital, Warsaw, attended by over a thousand priests and tens of thousands of faithful , was beatified Father Jerzy Popieluszko, martyr killed by the police of the communist regime on 19 October 1984. Popieluszko Father "with the only spiritual weapons of truth, justice and charity sought to keep and bear witness to the freedom of conscience as a citizen and a priest."

The father was a chaplain Popieluszko union Solidarnosc (Solidarity), an autonomous and independent trade union federation Polish, born of the worker and peasant struggles for freedom and against the socialist state.
Before the Mass, prayed the rosary which was chaired by Marianna Popieluszko, mother of the new priest blessed, 90 years of age .

In his homily, Archbishop Amato said "the sacrifice of the priest was not a defeat, because their tormentors could not kill the truth."
"The tragic death of our martyr was the beginning of a general conversion of hearts to the Gospel," he said, adding that "The death of the martyrs is the seed of new Christians."
After the Mass of beatification of Blessed Popieluszko relics were taken in a procession that traveled 14 kilometers from Warsaw.
